Major General Bikramdeep Singh, SM, VSM was commissioned into the Indian Army on 19 December 1987 and has had a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades in the olive greens. During his service, he acquired extensive operational experience in Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism operations, having served across diverse terrains including the deserts, the jungles of the North East and high-altitude regions along the Himalayan ranges. He has had the rare distinction of multiple tenures at the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield, as well as operational exposure in the hinterland as well as Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir.
He was selected to represent India as part of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in the Ethiopia–Eritrea Mission during a period of active hostilities. For his outstanding contribution towards peacekeeping and civil–military cooperation, he was awarded the UN Force Commander’s Commendation, in addition to recognitions from local civilian Government.
The General has held several prestigious command, instructional and staff appointments. These include command of an operational battalion, Advance Base Workshop in J&K, EME School at Vadodara and Cadets Training Wing at Secunderabad -both premier training establishments of the Indian Army. He also served as the Additional Director General (Financial Planning) at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army), Government of India, where he was responsible for planning and managing the Army’s financial outlay of approximately ?2.5 lakh Crores. His work in policy formulation, financial governance and resource optimisation contributed significantly to enhanced fiscal discipline, long-term capability planning and improved alignment between operational priorities and budgetary allocations.
Academically accomplished, he holds a B.Tech (Electronics) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; a Master of Science from the University of Madras; a Master of Management Studies (First Class with Distinction) from Osmania University, Hyderabad; and an M.Phil (First Class) from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He is also a certified National Cyber Scholar and Data Privacy/Data Protection Officer from the Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (ISAC), New Delhi.
He is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and the Higher Defence Management Course at the College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. As a Senior Fellow at the premier think tank, the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), New Delhi, he pursued research in Defence Offsets. He has authored numerous papers on defence procurements, capability development, military modernisation, acquisition practices and human resource management with his work published in reputed national journals and magazines.
An avid adventurer, Major General Singh is a trained paratrooper, a marathon runner, a wildlife enthusiast and an ardent pet lover. He has a deep passion for nature and animal conservation.
In recognition of his distinguished service to the nation, he has been awarded the Presidential honours of the Sena Medal (SM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), in addition to the Vice Chief of the Army Staff Commendation and the United Nations Force Commander’s Commendation. He was also awarded the Eminent Engineer of the year 2023 by the Institution of Engineers (India), Delhi State chapter.
